Anxiety May Be A Paxil Side Effect Like Birth Defects
Anxiety is a normal human reaction that we all feel once in a while. Other similar terms are worry or angst. We usually feel anxious when we are in a situation where we feel like we can’t control. It can create unpleasant feelings such as dread, worry or fear. There are a number of factors why people become anxious and that include medications. The antidepressant medication Paxil may cause feelings of anxiety and this is actually listed as a common side effect of the medication. Apart from that, Paxil belongs to SSRI antidepressants which can cause possible sexual dysfunction when taken by an individual.
When felt one too many times, it may turn into a disorder. Anxiety is referred as a general term for disorders that may cause feelings of nervousness, apprehension, fear and intense worrying. It has several specific types under it and the most common types are listed below.
• Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD)
GAD is characterized by excessive worrying. This is usually chronic and long-standing with the person worrying over the most mundane things. These people are seen as “worrywarts” because they have the tendency to make their worries blown out of proportion. It is difficult for them to control their anxiety once it sets in.
• Phobia
A phobia may be defined as an irrational fear to an object or situation. Phobia may elicit similar symptoms of GAD. However, the trigger for the reaction is identified and the cause is specific unlike GAD. The individual with a specific phobia usually has an unnecessary reaction to the trigger and cannot control the anxiety resulting from it. A number of phobias are known in the medical community. For example, claustrophobia is the fear of being in an enclosed space.
• Panic Disorder
This anxiety disorder will involve sudden and brief attacks of intense terror. The sufferer would often experience shaking, dizziness, nausea and breathing difficulties. Panic attacks may be from a little over a minute or may last up to hours and usually, they are abrupt. Attacks may be triggered by chronic stress or frightening experiences but sometimes, it could also be spontaneous.
• Separation Anxiety
This is characterized by intense anxiety when they are separated from a person or place that they feel very secure.This is most commonly seen in toddlers and school-age children. This may be naturally resolved over time or it might have an effect on the child while growing up. Some conditions including Paxil birth defects may also have a big effect on the child’s health while growing up.
